This month, we sit down for some Q&A with Wife / Resource for Healing / Ambassador for Happiness… Hilde Meadow!
Q: Hilde, you absolutely GLOW! You radiate peacefulness and healthfulness, and you make your livelihood out of sharing that with others and guiding them to it. Has this always been your natural state? And when did you decide to make this gift into a business? A: Thank you for the ‘glowing’ part, I don’t know about that, but for whatever reason, I do experience a lot of joy in my life! I have been drawn to the healing arts as long as I can remember. It is expressing itself through me as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) right now. I became aware of this remarkable tool by J.C. Hugh MacKimmie, an extraordinary healer and author of Presence of Angels, A Healer’s Life. He came through for me during my darkest hour and suggested I try EFT on myself and it was remarkable. I decided to share it and make it my life’s work. EFT is a form of emotional acupuncture. It is a simple finger tapping procedure that gently realigns the body’s energy system without the discomfort of needles. It incorporates the emotional element to the healing process, addressing unresolved issues as a likely cause of physical disease, psychological dysfunction and personal performance limits.
Q: How important to a person’s state-of-being would you say a person’s home is, and the space it’s in and that it creates, and the material surroundings in general? A: There is little doubt that our homes have a strong impact on our state of mind. I believe we all, on some level, yearn for places of harmony, balance and belonging. What that looks like is different to each one of us. I draw inspiration from my upbringing in Norway where we use a lot of indoor wood paneling, simple lines and decor, warm and soothing colors such as red and green and always an abundance of candle lights. We cannot help but implant our personality on our homes. It is like a canvas whether we know it or not. I am sure my husband Reivers will laugh when he reads this because to him, a house is just a box you hang out in for a while! We’ve just moved to a new dream home, and hopefully some of you will be able to come by and visit our new and improved box!
Q: Who are your mentors, Hilde? If you could have a one-on-one audience with anyone at all, who would that be, and what would a fly-on-the-wall observer see take place at that meeting? A: It is without question Amma (known as the hugging saint from India), and also Byron Katie, Eckart Tolle and anyone who lives and teaches unity. If I were fortunate enough to have an audience with such a being, I wouldn’t be surprised if we simply sat in silence and enjoyed each other’s presence. Silence can convey a great deal more than a thousand words. A great soul like Amma radiates such potent peace that it affects those around her profoundly.
Q: What are your feelings about the current state of affairs in the U.S., in the world for that matter, and if you were called on to attend a summit of world leaders to make a statement, what would your message be? A: Nothing can be done unless we become more interested in how we can change, and less concerned with how other people should change. I have noticed that when I make changes, those around me seem to be transformed in some mysterious way. It is also true that as long as we have no idea about the true nature of our ego we will barely scratch the surface of our potential. We will continue to project our pain, suffering and confusion onto others and remain victims rather than masters of our experience. Eckart Tolle is a great source of insight on this subject.
I understand that each one of us is doing the best we can with our childhood conditioning and experiences. I have never met a single person, including myself, who did not think that they were right, proper and justified in their actions, no matter how unskilled that may have appeared to those at the receiving end of it. I have certainly done things in the past that I would not have done with the knowledge I have now. When we know better, we do better. Why condemn anyone for it? This also applies to world leaders and politicians. For this reason I do my best not to judge what I do not fully understand; and I realize that I never have every angle or indeed the total truth about any person or situation. With acceptance comes peace, but not necessarily passivity. If I feel the urge to influence a situation I can do so, but it will be in a more conscious way.
You ask about the economy. I hold the belief that whatever happens to me is in my best interest. (This is part of my happiness factor.) Applying this more globally frees me up to find something positive. If people were not willing to live within their means before, this will force the matter. It seems to me that there is enough for our needs but not our greed. We might even be forced to become better stewards of the earth.
