Free Thanksgiving Feast in Bellingham

Old Town Cafe BellinghamWhen Heather and I first showed up in Bellingham back in the fall of 2003, there were two different things we could count on one hand:
1) The number of people we knew in all of Whatcom County, and…
2) The number of dollars to our name.

So when Thanksgiving day arrived, we decided to seek out one of Bellingham’s numerous free Thanksgiving dinners. We ended up at The Old Town Cafe — a Bellingham classic that ranks high — VERY high — on the list of locals’ favorite eateries.

Located at 316 W Holly St. , the Old Town will be dishing up hot holiday grub from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it’ll be beautifully spiced with live music and a great social scene.

If you’re not going to make it to that end of town but want to check out Bellingham’s other free Thanksgiving dinners, here’s a list originally published in the Bellingham Herald:

• Maple Alley Inn at Faith Lutheran Church, 2750 McLeod Road, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

• Old Town Café, 316 W. Holly St., 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, with live music.

• Good Burger, 5962 Guide Meridian, in Laurel, 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, traditional Thanksgiving meal.

• Five Columns Restaurant, 1301 E. Maple St., noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, for people 65 and older. Call 676-9900 for reservations.

• United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington Ave., noon Thursday.
